Comments from our guests…

‘The view cannot be beaten and is worth coming to Skye for. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and well-equipped and near some very good restaurants and walks. We were made very welcome by Meena and Chris and would highly recommend the cottage and the area. Stunning’.
Pat and John (London) October 2017
‘Thank – you Meena and Chris for a wonderful stay in Rainbow Cottage. We’ve felt cosy and at home all week. The view is stunning. So much to look at especially in the changing weather and light. We’ve explored Waternish, had tasty meals in the Stein Inn, visited the open studios and craft shops and taking home some lovely memories. One of the highlights was meeting many of the locals. We had a fabulous time with Lucy at Waternish Farm and enjoyed afternoon tea and cake. Also the chat about Corncrokes in the village community centre. We love the Isle of Skye especially in the Autumn and can’t wait for our next visit. Thanks again’.

‘ We chose this cottage for the views and weren’t disappointed. With ever changing light the view was different every day. This is our first trip to Skye and we were often torn between wanting to explore and staying ‘at home’ in this lovely cosy cottage. Despite being on holiday themselves, Meena kept checking by email that we were okay and both she and Chris gave us a warm welcome on their return. They clearly love it here and are keen others share their joy – and we have; delightful view, cottage , walking and even weather’.
Mary and Andrew (Bristol) September 2017
Dear Meena, dear Chris. It has been a lovely week once again! By the way, Rainbow Cottage is the one and only place that we have EVER returned to for a 2ND holiday stay….and it felt a little bit like returning home, when we drove down the road and had a first glimpse of the Waternish Bay. This year, even the weather seemed to have been on our side…..so maybe a chance that we ‘ll be back again. Thanks again for your warm welcome, for Nessie and for all the nice chats in between, for your overall hospitality. Hope to see you again!’

Thank you Meena and Chris for providing such an excellent stay – the cottage is lovely. The facilities are good with lots of welcome little touches….and, of course, the view from the cottage is stunning. We enjoyed lots of trips and good food. All in all, a most enjoyable trip to Skye. The transcendent beauty of the Island will surely draw us back. Thanks muchly!’
Chris, Ian and Karen (Lancashire) September 2017
‘Dear Meena and Chris – we would like to thank you for a wonderful stay at Rainbow Cottage. The cottage is located in the best part of Skye and has stunning views, different vistas emerge as the light changes. Always ready to help but never obtrusive, Chris and Meena are great hosts. There is always something to see on Skye no matter the weather. The Oyster Shed is a must. There is only one place to stay in Skye, and that’s the Rainbow Cottage!’
Karen, Steve and Jim (South Yorkshire) August 2017
‘Dear Chris and Meena – Thank you very much for your warm welcome. We spent a very nice week in Rainbow Cottage. We immediately felt at home but with a much nicer view than our Parisian lane. This Island is magic, despite the ‘constrasted’ weather. We will be back, we are sure. We were very happy to meet you. We will see you with pleasure again. See you soon.’
Joachim. Elias, Nadia and Renaud (France) August 2017
Douwe – enjoyed this week in Skye. The dolphins near Elgol he liked the most.
Jelle – was very happy with the WiFi in the house and he liked the walk at the Quiraing the most. We felt very welcomed. Meena I like your enthusiasm and warmth. Rainbow Cottage was the best choice. After the first night, we asked if the cottage was available the following week as well. It was already booked. We love the view. Skye is beautiful. One week is too short. We want more. Meena and Chris , thanks for this beautiful week. We really felt at home in Rainbow Cottage.’
Erik, Erna, Jelle and Douwe (The Netherlands) August 2017
The Cottage has such a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere and the view is breathtaking regardless of the weather. Meena and Chris are lovely people and do everything to ensure your stay is as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Skye is a truly beautiful place and this will hopefully not be our last visit. We’ve had a wonderful time as a family. Many thanks!’

‘Rainbow Cottage was a fantastic place to stay for our trip to Isle of Skye. After touring around the Island, we quickly realised this location was the best! Quiet and off the main roads, very close to a great pub and spectacular views. If we came back, we would definitely want to stay at Rainbow Cottage again. Chris and Meena were great hosts, very welcoming. Thanks a lot!’
Suzy and Andy (London, UK). Kate and Dan (Australia) July 2017
‘WOW! What an amazing view. Rainbow Cottage has probably the most picturesque view of the ocean on Skye! We really enjoyed waking up to the fantastic scenery! The cottage is located very conveniently in Waternish. We hope to come back again. Thank you for letting us stay here. We had a lovely stay on Skye!
Veda, Viji, Ryan (Dubai) July 2017
We have had a delightful week at Rainbow Cottage, discovering the many faces of the Island, enjoying great walks in all sorts of weather. The cottage feels more like a home than a holiday let, and we really appreciated the efforts Chris and Meena have made to make us feel as comfortable and welcomed as possible. Highlights for me (Paula) – walking the Quiraing on the first day, such dramatic and lofty land forms. Also, taking boat from Elgol to Loch Corsuisk and walking around the Loch; being so close to the Black Cullins, having seen them from afar from many angles, was awe-inspiring. Waternish is a beautiful and peaceful area, a lovely base to return to, especially Rainbow Cottage with its stunning views of Loch Bay and its ever changing lights/skies/clouds. Thanks Meena and Chris’.
Paula, Ian, Sophia and Mathew (Bath, Somerset) June 2017
It has been our SECOND time to Rainbow Cottage and it felt like coming home. The weather would not cooperate this time but we relaxed and it did not matter. We had a great time and had the chance to see two sunsets this time. Relaxing was the utmost and we did that. Thanks to Meena and Chris that we still enjoyed our vacation every second. The place is just amazing. For sure, it will feel like coming home again next time. Cheers for everyone and see you again next time!’
Petra and Herbert (Germany) June 2017
‘ Thank you for a lovely holiday at Rainbow Cottage. We have enjoyed the wonderful views and stunning sunsets. The cottage has been warm, comfortable and pin drop quiet. Thank you for all your help in places to visit – perfect hosts!’
Jim and Kay (Derby) May/June 2017
‘Third time on Skye, THIRD time at Rainbow Cottage and third set of mini adventures with memories to take home! Thanks so much Meena and Chris for everything. You make coming back even more pleasurable! We have ‘enjoyed’ the Cullins and loved the view from the Trotternish Ridge, sitting out on a tongue with a coffee and cake taking it all in. We even saw a red fox on our way up to the Peak of the Red Fox – amazing! Oronsay and Macleod’s Maidens were a first and lovely too!. Can’t wait to come back!
Jude and Chaz , (Cumbria)    May 2017
‘Our SECOND visit. Thank you so much to Meena and Chris for another wonderful week at Rainbow Cottage. The food at Edinbane Inn and the Oyster Shed were amazing. Had a great day in Glen Sligachan with Skye MTB adventures. The welcome, hospitality, and the view were as magnificent as ever. We were lucky enough to see a rainbow and some stunning sunsets. Our son will be born in August, and we can’t wait to bring him to Rainbow Cottage to see Chris and Meena next year!’.
Dave and Kate  (Kent) May 2017
‘Our FIFTH visit! As soon as you arrive at Rainbow Cottage you are enveloped with calm, warm and delightful feelings that emanate from the pores of this little piece of paradise.
Immediately and therapeutically your mind and body are washed and cleansed by the awesome beauty and serenity and solemnity of Lochbay as you gaze lovingly upon it from this dream location. At the culmination of our visit, we return to our lives with a new spirit and vitality. Thank you Rainbow Cottage and special thanks to Meena and Chris for allowing us ethereal experience and making us feel so special each time we return’
Kay and Graham (Staffs) May 2017
Unbelivable weather and the best sunsets in the world ever! We still can’t believe that we didn’t need to wear a coat/jumper all week! Thanks as ever for the lovely house!’  Ann and Mark on THIRD visit (Cheshire) April/May 2017…..& friends….We really enjoyed our first stay at Rainbow Cottage. Excellent changing views across the Outer Hebrides. Thanks very much for your advice and, of course, the excellent house!’ Jon and Penny April/May 2017
‘At the end of the Rainbow you’ll find a Pot of Gold of this ‘Rainbow Cottage’,
that saying was told. With views ever changing (and weather too) we thoroughly enjoyed each moment with you.
The scenery beguiling, and island mesmerising, the people so friendly, and food just amazing. So sadness at leaving is high – but remember! Joan and Derick will return for their Seventh visit in October (not November).
Joan and Derick Darling and Chris and Louise (Northumberland ), April 2017
‘Returning after four years for our SECOND visit with great anticipation and expectation, nothing absolutely nothing disappoints about Rainbow Cottage. Why did we leave it so long! Visited lots of ‘old’ haunts’ near and far from Waternish, but the pull of the cottage and just sitting, drinking (and drinking) in the view is what this special place is all about. No two days – no two hours – the same and that’s what Skye is all about. We extended our visit but still not long enough to linger in Lusta and Rainbow Cottage. And not least, our wonderful hosts, Meena and Chris for their enthusiasm and warm welcome, treating us like old friends! Thank you both so much’.
Fergus, Julie and Andrew Macleod, Glasgow and Graham, Edinburgh
               (April 2017).
‘ Wonderful, soul searching opportunity in a very special cottage perfectly made for a festive celebration. The tranquility of the Island has captured our hearts and the hospitality of the area and Chris and Meena has encouraged us to book again soon. Thank-You!’
Louise, James and Stanley, Midlands (December-January 2017)
‘Returning to Rainbow Cottage is like catching up with a special friend. As you walk in, it smiles and hugs you. Thank you. Our FOURTH visit’

‘Thanks for a perfect stay at Rainbow Cottage, everything was perfect’
Mark and Sian Bryant, Shetland (October 2016)
‘This was my Mam and Dad’s FIFTH visit and my first. My first reaction to the view as of
J R Ehman when he thought there was a signal from another intelligence out there in space “WOW!!!”. What a beautiful place to be. Chris and Meena are lovely just as described by my Mam and Dad, I felt like I have known them for years. The weather this week has been gorgeous, blue sky and sunshine. We have ventured out to several  lovely places, after a good holiday lie in!’
Ken, Derick and Joan Darling, Northumberland (October 2016)
‘ We have had the most wonderful week – it exceeded all expectations. We have enjoyed the comfort of this delightful cottage with its spectacular views. Each window frames an everchanging picture caprturing the atmosphere and beauty of this Island – captivating.
All good things must come to an end but we take with us a myriad of memories, all of them special, and a heap of photographs!
Many thanks to Meena and Chris for welcoming us to your little piece of heaven and taking the time to provide us with essential information in order that we enjoyed our week to the full.
Bob and Lyn Sutherland, (October 2016)

‘Our THIRD visit to the wonderful Rianbow Cottage and majestic Isle of Skye. Its been twelve months since our last visit but after a few minutes we felt we had never been away – and what a great feeling. So many beautiful and memorable places to see and places to eat. Rainbow Cottage remains so warm and welcoming , as are Meena and Chris our hosts. Many thanks to them for continuing to share their beautiful home.
A great and enjoyable and relaxing holiday – we’ll be back. ‘
Dawn and Bill,  Newcastle upon Tyne  (September 2016)
‘Rainbow Cottage had been a recommendation by some good friends so we were sure not to be disappointed. What we did not expect was to have SUCH a great week in this lovely place that felt a bit like home for all 3 of us instantly. We had some fantastic walks, a nice boat trip, some hundred photos taken and all the other great stuff you can do on Skye. But the truly remarkable moments were those granted by our hosts: watching Meena and her Bolly Babes dance, talking some salt business while having a beer or two at Stein’s….. and our 2 year old saying ‘Meena and Wizz’ the whole day – and that for a reason, because both of you are such warm, welcoming, humorous and interesting persons! We really embraced the opportunity to stay at your place and hope to be back someday….’
Emil (age 2), Anne, Thomas, Germany (September 2016)
‘As always a great holiday with our friends Shirley and Dave. Weather mixed but that should never be a barrier to getting out and exploring this beautiful island. We look forward to our ANNUAL visit. As Phil Collins said ‘ it’s another day for me and you in Paradise’. Thanks to Meena and Chris – two of the nicest people around’.
Glen and Mike, Leeds (August/September 2016)
‘For our first longer visit to Skye it was a great choice to stay at Rainbow Cottage. The views are spectacular and the weather was being friendly for most of the week. Thanks so much Meena and Chris for the warm welcome. It is just a place to sit back and relax. With so many things to explore there will always be a reason to come back’.
Petra and Herbert, Germany (August 2016)
‘Dear Chris and Meena, now back. We still  miss the fresh air, the calm and beautiful views from your cottage. Thank you once more for your warm hospitality, we had a really wonderful time. We experienced all sorts of weather , but the cottage was the ideal location for all of them. We had some great sunsets and enjoyed  the changing, silvery  lights after rains. A special highlight were the eagles ! It was hard to leave this beautiful place. Hope to be back !’
Brigitte and Piotr , Würzburg, Germany (July/ August 2016)
‘This is our second visit to Skye, but first to Rainbow Cottage, hopefully not the last! What a fabulous view, I don’t think there is a better one in the whole of Skye. Thank you so much Meena and Chris for making us feel so welcome, we have had a brilliant week, seeing the sea eagle in full flight from the cottage was one of the highlights! We would thoroughly recommend Skye and Rainbow Cottage to all our friends and can’t wait for our next visit’.
                                     The Bradleys, Manchester (July 2016)
‘Really loved our time at Rainbow Cottage. So cosy and comfortable with amazing views. The light is constantly changing and the sunsets were great. Weather has been very mixed but did not stop us getting out and about. Personal favourites are Neist Point and the Quiraing. Watch out for the White Tailed Sea Eagle flying across the bay in front of the cottage! Meena and Chris are so kind and helpful with lots of ideas of things to do. Can’t wait to come back!’
Jill and Dorothy, Berwick and Stratharen (July 2016)
‘We have spent many happy holidays on the lovely Isle of Skye. So many magical places to visit. Thank you Meena and Chris for being so friendly and welcoming. This cottage is an amazing location with fantastic views and stunning sunsets!’
Sandra, Peter and Mark, West Yorkshire (July 2016)
‘My first visit to the Isle of Skye, somewhere I have always wanted to visit (Sue) but had my wonderful tour guide with me who has been many times before. Seen some fantastic views and felt very much welcomed by Meena and Chris. The cottage is so snug and comfortable and the ever changing views mean the TV is superfluous! Absolutely love the place but I will have to keep coming back to make sure! Iain already fell in love with it many years ago. And finally, on the last day whilst we were packing up – the first rainbow of the week!’
Sue and Iain, East Yorkshire (June 2016)
‘A wonderful place, whatever the weather! And we were able to walk every day.
Thank you Chris and Meena for warm hospitality, good advice……. and a tour of the sea salt site. And finally we got our sunset!’

‘ Wow, what a fantastic place! From the first enquiry to the final sad “au-revoir” our encounter with Meena and Chris has been superlative. We arrived jaded from the 9-5, and left enlivened by Skye’s mystical beauty in all weathers and our hosts consideration and subtle generosity. The cottage was perfect and the views stunning’
David and Jackie, Pyrford, Surrey (June 2016)
‘Our THIRD visit to Skye and Rainbow Cottage. Fantastic weather, we are so lucky to see Skye in all of its glory. Rainbow Cottage is a fantastic place, a great sense of calm envelopes you as you enter the cottage. So inviting and a great place to unwind. Chris and Meena are such great hosts and it was a joy to be back. Hope to return for another memorable stay’
Rhona and David, Troon. (June 2016)
‘Brilliant Skye at Rainbow Cottage – Quiraing, Claigan Coral beach, Neist point, Kilt Rock Waterfall, Dinosaur footprint in Staffin, Portree harbour, especially the stunning sunrise, sunset view from the cottage. Thank you Meena and Chris so much for sharing your cottage with us. Thank you for being very thoughtful and making us feel so welcome. We have had a really BEAUTIFUL time. Hope to see you again’
Xing, Hongwei and David Wu, (June 2016)
‘ This is our second visit to Rainbow Cottage and we would not be anywhere else on Skye. Meena and Chris have always made us so welcome, give great advice and what a head massage (from Meena!). We have been lucky with brilliant weather and have walked every day, relaxing at night with superb views, sunsets and the odd glass of wine! Rhuba Hunish offered more fantastic views, the Cullins were more than a challenge. We had a good spend at the Isle of Skye Bakery company (food & gallery – well worth a visit) We have left with a boot full of Isle of Skye Sea Salt (absolutely gorgeous!) and a must to return. Hope all who follow have a time to remember too!’
                                                Jude and Chaz, (May 2016)
‘Thank-you Meena and Chris for making us feel so welcome and letting us share a little of your very special vision. We have had a really wonderful time. The evenings here, in particular, have been stunning, with ever changing kaleidescope of shape and colour. We had a memorable meal at Lochbay – fruits de mer was quite outstanding. And we tested ourselves with walks around Loch Coruisk and Elgol and a fine ascent of Bla Bheinn, not to say a cyle ride doing the length of Raasay – another very special place. As Phil’s words say, the memories will be forever treasured. And Meena’s head massage was just wonderful!
Julie Collings and Phil Grierson, (May 2016)
A poem inspired by one of our guests Phil Grierson as he looked over the Bay from the cottage window:
‘As the sun fell burning off the edge
Of the wide ocean stretched darkly
Round the contours of this ancient land
Something rustling in a gentle breeze
Whispered through the cooling air –
‘Here be there faeries’
Later, as the iridescent sky
Shaped out the lines of darkened isles
A falling sliver crescent moon
Had light reflected in a shimmering line:
A finger in the rippled waters far below
Pointing to memories and dreams
Of this wonderous place
That will be forever treasured.
And all this while
Dancing around the bay
The faeries sparkled
Over the mersmerising sea’
                                        Phil Grierson (May 2016)
“Thank you Chris and Meena for a wonderful stay at Rainbow Cottage. The location is amazing and the view had us enthralled all week. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and making our stay extra special. Freshly laid eggs from Richard’s hens were fantastic, sunsets were amazing, we loved all the food we tried. We have never felt so relaxed as we did at Rainbow Cottage and will definitely be back”.
Kate and Dave, Kent (April 2016).
“Thank you Meena and Chris for your hospitality and friendliness. Your local knowledge was shared, your love of this spot also, and the salt tunnels were fascinating. The cottage and local recommendations were relaxing yet exhilarating to our minds and senses, peace reigned within us. There is always more to see here to take the lanes and open your mind.’ I took the road less travelled, and that made all the difference’.
Alistair and Andrea, Staffs ( April 2016)
” Too long to wait another two years for our FIFTH visit to Rainbow Cottage so we will be returning again in October this year! Meena and Chris make you feel so welcome, then one glance at the view from the cottage and you are hooked. It is so peaceful here, yet the view is ever changing, you feel the need to keep watching day and night! The places we visited this time The Oyster Bar and the Isle of Skye Bakery, both worth a visit as is Ian William’s Brae Fasach gallery”
Joan and Derrick Darling, Northumberland (April 2016)
“A spectacular place! Even when it rained Rainbow Cottage was a comfortable retreat to escape it all and watch it all go by. Meena and Chris – thank you – you made us feel most welcome and great recommendations (not to forget Isle of Skye sea salt!). We are here just long enough to fall in love with Skye – sure we’ll be back!”
Johnny, Jenny and Amy (March 2016)
What an amazing place, a fantastic sense of calm and peace. Truely a place to unwind and forget ‘normal’ life for a short time. Will hopefully be back soon!”
Debs and Chris, London (March 2016)
“Chris and Meena are truly magicians for having had the spirit of adventure to come here themselves and to make this wonderful place accessible to others. We have had a brilliant week here and will be taking a piece of its magic home with us in the happy expectation that we can do it all again! Thank you!
Ann and Colin, Hampton, London (Feb –  March 2016)
“This cottage was the best one we have ever stayed in. And, we’ve stayed in many in Spain and France, as well as the UK. The views are stunning and more than made up for the erratic weather. The one day we stayed in to avoid the storms it was wonderful just to watch the weather go by. All the other days we were out walking and apart from a few squalls the weather was fine. Apart from the cottage views, the quality of furnishings and fittings were excellent all around. It’s rare to have comfortable furniture. Overall, you have a wonderful cottage and we will both recommend it to our friends and, hopefully, return someday”
Neil and Louise McCoubrey, Edinburgh (February 2016)
” Amazing cottage from which to explore the wonders of Skye. Thank you so much Chris and Meena for making us so welcomed, like old friends! The whole week was just magical. We will definitely be back!”

Anna and Jo, London and Glasgow (Jan-Feb 2016)

” Perfect Views, warm and relaxing cottage, quiet, peaceful holiday. Our SECOND stay at Rainbow Cottage and again we are leaving happy and refreshed. Thanks! (for sightseeing recommendations see visitor’s book in cottage)”.

Colin and Vanessa, Perthshire (October 2015)

Our SECOND trip to Rainbow Cottage and it was every bit as good (or better!) than we remember. The cottage is warm and cosy, the view is amazing and everything we could have wished for was supplied by Meena and Chris. Skye has everything – Fairy pools, dinosour footprints, coral beach, the Queraing etc. Boat trips from Portree and Elgol – we saw sea eagles, golden eagles, seals, porpoises and so much more. Sunsets are amazing and barely not a drop of rain. Thanks for everything – we will certainly be back!”

Jonathan, Lorraine & Taylor, Renfrewshire (October 2015)

“It is our SECOND visit to Rainbow Cottage and we were excited to return! This time we had a toddler in tow so there would be a bit less relaxing and no dining at the Three Chimneys but we still had an excellent time. The weather was mostly kind so we managed lots of walks and pottering in the garden. Lunches at the Stein Inn, an excellent dinner at Edinbane Inn and lots of looking out of the cottage windows at the amazing views. Thanks again for a lovely stay……& from our 18 month …. Mirren recommends the Park in Edinbane and the soft play at the Aros Centre”.

                                                    The Smiths, Glasgow (October 2015)

” Pure heaven! Rainbow Cottage is wonderful. I could just sit and watch the changing light over the Loch and the fly-by of the birds. Lochbay Seafood and Gordon’s boat trip made for a perfect day. The cottage has everything one would need and  you two, Meena and Chris, were perfect hosts! Please come and visit us in the North Carolina mountains! ….Wonderful location. Wonderful hosts. Feel so lucky to have found this place”.

Patty Davies and Jean Richards, USA (September 2015)

” Our SECOND visit to Rainbow Cottage and, although we haven’t  left yet, we are already planning our return! Quite simply an amazing location with ever changing colours and spectacular views. Words nor pictures cannot capture the feeling this wonderful place gives you and we feel very lucky to have been able to share it. Eagles and Dolphins in the bay, and the kind attention of the lovely Meena and Chris make this location unrivalled”

Dawn and Bill, Newcastle (September 2015)

” Our FOURTH visit! Another wonderful week at Rainbow Cottage – THE place to relax and unwind. We bought fabulous weather from the South! Looking forward to returning. Thanks Meena and Chris, as ever!”

Graham and Caroline, Bath (September 2015)

” Great stay at Rainbow Cottage, as always – our THIRD visit! Chris and Meena always make it a special experience. Despite mixed weather, the sun managed to come out each time we stopped for a walk: Rubha Hunish and Neist Light House were highlights. The Queraing is fantastic especially in the sunshine. Lots of great little craft shops to visit. Back again next year! Thanks Chris and Meena”

Glen and Mike, Yorkshire ( September 2015)

” Just spent the perfect week in Rainbow Cottage. The view is something that will stay with me forever. We were able to explore the whole Island and a pub (Stein Inn) in walking distance to the cottage is a real bonus. Gordon’s boat trip (Diver’s Eye) is a must for anyone with kids and/or an interest in wildlife. Another highlight was walking along the beach back to the cottage watching the sun set at the end of the loch. Fairy Glen is a must to visit – magical!.…..and from Daniel, 10 years old ‘saw dolphins, whales and eagles. Rainbow Cottage is amazing. Will never forget it’ The cottage has every comfort and Meena and Chris cannot do enough for you. Thanks.

Jay, Jo and Dan, W. Yorks (August 2015)

Our SECOND time in Rainbow Cottage and every bit as enjoyable as the first visit. We have travelled the whole island and had a great time. The view from the cottage is a constantly changing picture and always amazing. The eagles have been a joy to watch. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and Chris and Meena are the perfect hosts. Thank you both so much”.

Neil and Patrice, Cumbria (August  2015)

“Thank you very much, Meena and Chris, for your very warm welcome and for all your tips on the places to go. Even with mixed weather, the view from the cottage is spectacular and it is always very warm and comfortable. Our highlights were Minke whale spotting with Gordon, Loch Coruisk boat trip from Elgol, Old Man of Storr, our walks in wild places and of course, the Golden eagles over the cottage. We would love to come back.”

Isabelle, Daniel, James and Alice, Mandelieu, France (August 2015)

“Thank you for a wonderful stay at Rainbow Cottage! We will have many happy memories of whales at Water Neish Point, puffins on Gordon’s boat trip, Ian William’s amazing art and big heart, being piped down from our trek up the Old Man of Storr, spectacular views at every point and always a comfy cottage to come home to.”

” Had a wonderful holiday at Rainbow Cottage. Everything here we needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay, plus lots of personal touches and a truly breathtaking view of Loch Bay. Meena and Chris are lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. Managed to see quite a bit of Skye. Stunning scenery all around the area. Fresh eggs and fish delivered to the cottage were excellent. Was lovely to spot sea eagles over the cottage and watch the rabbits appear in the evening……and from Joni (10 years old) I think the best thing about Rainbow Cottage is the amazing view and the eagles”.

Gillian, Gary, + 10 year old twins Carly and Joni Barrett. East Kilbride (July/August 2015)

” A wonderful holiday full of adventures! Our second stay and just as good as the last. Some wet days but only two to keep us at home. Getting to know the Island, its mountains, food and wildlife is just glorious and the cottage and our hosts fantastic”.

“We have found everything we were looking for : warm and friendly people, a spectacular view from the house, wonderful walks, a relaxing holiday. It was well worth coming all the way from Germany to spend two weeks in this welcoming cottage in the North of the Isle of Skye. Thank you Meena and Chris!”

“For Game of Thrones fans not the land of fire and ice, but light and water and ever changing skyscapes, and luminous colours. Every hedgerow contains a treat but highlights include eagles, buzzards, cuckoos, seals and our family of rabbits. Do try the Three Chimneys, otherwise any walk anywhere rewards! Special mention to SkyeSkins. Thank you Meena and Chris”

” Very comfortable, beautifully decorated house with superb views. Meena and Chris excellent hosts. Waternish Point, Trumpan and neist Point highlights and lochside Crafts and Tea Room Dunvegan, for lunch. Despite poor weather no need for the TV with that everchanging view! Thanks for all your help to make it an enjoyable stay.”

David, Elspeth and Bob, Glasgow (May 2015)

” What was memorable about our week here? Watching the sea turn azure blue in the sunshine at Oronsay. Watching the seals watching us at the Coral Beaches. Wonderful, lingering meals at the Three Chimneys and the Edinbane Inn. Amazing sunsets over the Western Isles. And tonight, after a day of rain and wind, the Waternish Peninsula suddenly bathed in sunshine. Sometimes Skye saves the best until last! Thank you Chris and Meena for being such welcoming, gracious hosts of the magical Rainbow Cottage. We will all be back.

” A very comfortable week in a lovely. cosy cottage., thank you. Stunning views and location- we enjoyed just having a glass of wine and watching the sun go down behind the Outer Hebrides. Waternish Point and Neist Point highly recommended for wildlife spotting.”

Kieran and Gail (May 2015).

“Arrived in the snow, walked with the rain and skipped in the sunshine on the summit above The Quirang (amazing 360 degree view!). Each element added to our stay, Skye is an amazing place and whatever you choose to do you cannot fail to enjoy! We were blown away by the view from Sgurr Na Stri (15 mile walk through the Cuillins Return) and spent ages on Coral Beach watching “the children of the sea” and munching on a big fat cake from Jann’s (Dunvegan)! (with Scottish whipped cream and raspberries!). Thanks very much for making us welcome Meena and Chris, we are already planning our return! (Rainbow Cottage speaks for itself!)”

A lovely cottage with stunning views and beautiful walks close by.We also enjoyed some challenging cycle routes. Good weather has also helped to make this a very enjoyable, relaxing week on Skye. (I would definitely recommend the pool table at the Stein Inn. Admission £1 – from Andrew age 9!).

“We came here in the autumn to take some time out from our busy London lives and to do some ‘big sky’ thinking about our business. The setting could not be more perfect. Inspiring views, refreshing walks and cosy evenings in the local pub. We have really stepped back and return refreshed , motivated and ready for action. This will now be an annual event. Highly recommended. Thank you.”

Thank you also, Meena and Chris, for all your recommendations for trips out and places to eat – they were all outstanding.

We are already planning our next visit to Rainbow Cottage; to return to this unique and wonderful isle and to the warm and generous care of our hosts Meena and Chris.”

“It was our third time at the Rainbow Cottage and for sure it will not have been the last time. Entering the cosy cottage was a little bit like homecoming. Even with our third time on Skye there was plenty of things left to see. Beside the beautiful weather granted to us throughout the whole of the week, we were able to watch eagles right from our breakfast table. A nice walk out to the lighthouse at Waternish Point (good trip) offered us the opportunity to see a whale (beside the seals enjoying the sun there). As we met Chris and Meena later in the week they were like always: good friends and wonderful hosts. Now we are sorry to leave as the week went by so fast. But, as mentioned above ….we will be back!”

As always very hard to leave such a perfect cottage and location. Chris and Meena made us so welcome. They and the Waternish community made us so welcome and very much part of their community, even if only for a short time. We will see them and Rainbow Cottage again.”

Lovely boat trip from Elgol with ‘Skye Boat Trips’ to Loch Coruisk, a very beautiful and and peaceful place. Neist Point is well worth a visit, stunning views. Nice food on our last night at The Old Schoolhouse restaurant in Dunvegan and the Small and Cosy Tea Room in Digg (Nr Staffin) is a must do. We’ve had more sun than rain and planned our excursions around the weather. Thanks to Chris and Meena for making us feel so welcome, we hope to return soon.”

“Meena and Chris. Thanks to you both for allowing us to stay at your wonderful, warm, comfortable cottage. We have had a great time even though the weather hasn’t been kind to us. However, the weather did present us with a magical double rainbow at Coral Bay, it was so clear and vivid it seemed almost close enough to reach out and touch. Two visits to Colbost Jetty have been rewarded with our own private performances by the seals.”

“Did you ever wakeup, watching out of the window and seeing a bright rainbow over the sea and the outline of the Outer Hebrides far on the horizon? That’s what can happen at the Rainbow Cottage and that’s one off the things that makes this place so special. We came for the second time to Rainbow Cottage and it felt a little bit like homecoming. Knowing the surroundings really lets you focus of the purpose of the visit: being on holiday, relax and enjoy! On the other hand there are always new things to discover on this beautiful island of Skye and the view from the cottage is so amazing that we will never get tired of it.

Meena and Chris are wonderful hosts who gave us a warm welcome. Thank you for the very nice evening and talk at the Stein Inn. Meena and Chris say that they want the world to come to Rainbow Cottage, and it is the best way to experience this part of the world. “Absolutely lovely. It turned out that one of us was recuperating from an operation…and what better place to do it!

Shilasdair is a knitters heaven – I enjoyed all the craft shops and have gone home with lots of bits and pieces. The walk to Oronsay Island is lovely, as are Dunvegan Castle gardens. The drive around Trotternish is fabulous, but takes a long time and we had to cut it short to get back for dinner at the Three Chimneys! (Everything it is cracked up to be, but the wine is seriously overpriced.)

But, as previous guests have said, the best thing is the cottage, the location and THAT VIEW!!

Meena and Chris are kind and helpful, with lots of local knowledge. We hope to be back.”

“This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in, in all the years we have travelled around the Hebrides. From our arrival in thick sea mist and rain – but still having the most memorable sunset four hours later – to the incredible weather events through our two weeks, this part of Skye just has to be one of the best bases for a holiday. Dunvegan (incl. seal boat trip), Coral Beach, Neist Point lighthouse, the walk from Ullinish to Oronsay and Carbost/Glenbrittle – Waternish is perfectly located for all these great days out. Other recommendations: the Red Roof Cafe in Glendale, Marmelade in Portree, the bakers and Jann’s in Dunvegan and, of course, ‘the local ‘ Stein Inn in Waternish.

And, what ‘tops’ all of these attractions, returning to ‘that view’ from the cottage – never the same twice – just fantastic!

We’d also like to say thank you, Meena and Chris for making our holiday so special with excellent recommendations of walks and cafes and not forgetting our cultural outings to see Sharon and the Reckless Angels in Glendale (it may have been a small audience but it was a lively one!) and the Pirates of Penzance!

“This is our second visit to Rainbow Cottage and our sincere thanks to Meena and Chris for providing such a perfect, idyllic holiday destination. They are kind, friendly, warm and welcoming which is reflected in the comfort of their cottage, making it feel like a home.

The warm, comfortable lounge provides unprecedented, perfect views out across the ‘theatre’ that is Loch Bay; where no matter what the weather the anthology of scenes entice you into the action!! Spot the eagles soaring around the bay, watch the boats and ships traverse the horizon on their way to wherever. The distant islands shimmer, appear and disappear at the will of the atmosphere. The changing hues abound across the cliffs and water, the moody wind chops and chafes the surface of the sea. You see there is no real requirement to even leave the cottage to find peace, contentment and fulfilment.

PS – Don’t leave without trying the eggs – they are awesome.”

We experienced this fantastic combination of land, mountains and sea during every thinkable kind of weather – and it had a special atmosphere every time. Coming here at the beginning of September offered us the opportunity to see all the heather in its purple bloom – very beautiful.

“Thanks to Chris and Meena for a lovely welcome and great tips about places to go and to eat. We enjoyed the food (and Sunday night music) at the Edinbane Inn; great fish and chips at the Stein Inn and would also recommend the Old School House at Dunvegan and LochBay Seafood at Stein. Memorable pitstops at RedRoof Cafe in Glendale, Small and Cosy Tea Room near Staffin, Elishadder Art Cafe, Arriba in Portree and quirky Windrush Cafe at Balgown. Loved the Oronsay walk, Talisker Bay, Trotternish Ridge and Ardmore peninsula and the fairy pools at Glen Brittle. Each day we said ‘We’ll have to come back to do that’ – and we definitely will.

We’d love to return to Rainbow Cottage. Its got to have the best view on Skye and is comfortable and ideally located for access to the whole island.”

“We have been to many beautiful places but this is one of the greatest! We spent hours looking out of the window watching the different colours of the sky and sea. We enjoyed this place very much and are grateful that we could stay here. Trotternish ridge is marvellous, eating at seafood restaurant “Harbour View” excellent and the great walk to Oronsay Island unforgettable. Chris and Meena are really nice and very helpful. They made us feel like being at home. Enjoy whenever you can Meena’s indian food and head massage- it is just great. We had a wonderful sunny week here and we will definitely be back here one day! Look forward to seeing you again dear Chris and Meena!

“Really enjoyed our stay at Rainbow Cottage. A lovely cottage in a fantastic location with ever changing views – from rainbows to gorgeous sunsets over the Western Isles. Meena and Chris were really friendly and helpful. We look forward to visiting again. Highlights of our visit included Coral Beach, the walk to Neist Point lighthouse, expresso chocolate brownies at the Red Roof Cafe, seals on the rocks between Coral Beach and Dunvegan Castle, sea eagles and the Ellishader Art Cafe. For the children there was a great playground at Sligachan next to a bar with a good children’s menu (between Portree and Broadford). Don’t want to leave as there is so much more to see.”

“What a wonderful week we have had at Rainbow Cottage. This is the best cottage we have stayed in, a home away from home. Beautiful location and wonderful sunsets. We explored a lot of Skye but left some for our next visit. We can recommend the the Small and Cosy Teashop in Digg near Staffin – superb cakes followed by a walk at the Quiraing to burn off the calories. Dunvegan Castle was interesting and we saw the Cuillin’s in all their majesty in the sunshine.  Thanks Chris and Meena for your warm welcome, superb meal and letting us share your magical location. We hope to come back very soon”

“A delightful base from which to explore the island by car and by foot. Weather has been mixed but it didn’t stop us, spotted seals, dolphin and whale from Waternish Point and sea eagle and red deer en route. Sampled menus at Three Chimneys, Loch Bay, The  Old School House and the Small and Cosy Tea Room plus cooked ourselves with fish delivered by George. Each walk we celebrated by opening a bottle of champagne. A wonderful week!”

“We had such a warm welcome having brought the chill of London with us. Then a glorious week of sunshine and wonderful sunsets. Loved Trotternish and the drive to Elgol, the busking at Edinbane Inn,  a wonderful meal at the Three Chimneys and the late drive back with sheep and lambs sleeping at the side of the road. There is still so much to see we shall have to return and will also recommend this very special cottage to all our friends.”

“We have had a brilliant week in Rainbow Cottage – and, yes, we did see a rainbow. Fantastic sunsets and sunshine all week, we feel truly blessed. Great jamming session at the Edinbane Inn and the Vatersay Boys were ‘bouncing’. Rainbow Cottage is the perfect location, we spent many hours admiring the always beautiful views. Meena and Chris have been so welcoming and all the local knowledge and advice is greatly appreciated. Thankyou Meena for the gorgeous Indian meal. We both feel totally refreshed and that’s all down to our brilliant hosts and fantastic ‘home’. Thank you.”

“Lovely cottage with spectacular views. Glorious weather for seven days – who could ask for more! Took the ‘Spindrift’ boat tour to Isle of Rona with Pam as tour guide and Kevin at the helm. Well worth the money – saw sea eagles, cormorants, puffins, guillimots and more. Spent several late afternoons at the Stein Inn – lovely pub with great atmosphere.

The cottage itself is well equipped for two couples. We spent many evenings gazing out at the glorious sunsets – trying to capture them on our cameras.Chris and Meena are great landlords – friendly and welcoming, ready to help with any queries whilst not being intrusive. A perfect combination. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and hope to visit again.”

“A beautiful  ‘home from home’ cottage with the most stunning location. My sunset photography is really coming along! Thank you soooo much Chris and Meena for being so welcoming and helpful with all our walk info etc. Also wonderful indian meal and head massage.  Highlights have been the Quiraing walk, Red Roof Cafe, Small and Cosy Teahouse, Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant, the sunsets etc. etc…………. Of course we can’t comment on the rainbow because we have had no rain. What a week of wonderful weather!

An excellent week rounded off on our last night by good food and music at Raise the Roof at the Red Roof Cafe  – a not to be missed place.

We will definitely recommend Rainbow Cottage to anyone visiting Skye and for our first visit to the island it has been a holiday to remember. Stunning!”

“Meena and Chris

Thank you for the experience of such a wonderful location to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. You are a kind and generous couple who’s welcome and consideration is warmly and genuinely given. You have not just provided holiday accomodation but a home which for us is almost impossible to wrench ourselves away from.

This exceptional cottage provided everything required should you not wish to step out across its threshold for the duration of your stay. Each time we went out around this lovely isle we found that we were magically drawn back to the cottage to be consumed by the vista from the lounge; the picture it creates is alive and real, the ever changing hues and shades will forever live in our memories.

We have drunk wine and drank in the views your wonderful home has offered, it has touched our hearts like no other place…….’

‘We’ve had a brilliant week with some of the most entertainingly varied weather ever – I think we have seen phenomena we never knew existed. The rainbow count has been high! As you know the sea eagle count has also been very high, including up and down the bay, and the best place to watch the seals was definitely Loch Dunvegan – magical. The cottage and the view have been fantastic – thanks for laying on that sunset last Saturday night. Much appreciated. We’ve had a series of completely lazy mornings just gazing out of the window, counting the buzzards. Last night’s Indian meal was also amazing – you are Skye’s culinary genius, as is your assistant! We will definitely recommend you to everyone we know . See you soon!

‘Our first visit to Rainbow Cottage but it won’t be our last. Skye has so much to offer, to see and to do, that we will be back – and why stay anywhere else? Rainbow Cottage has the bestsituation, views and comforts; surely.

Rainbow Cottage exceeded our expectations, it has been so much more than we could hope forThe kitchen was well stocked with all the tools we needed and the comforts of the rest of the cottage made it a joy to arrive ‘home to’, relaxing in style after long days exploring. Clever planting outside accentuating the dramatic views and allowing a full and glorious aspect from the superb windows. Went for superb drives and walks – recommend Waternish Point lighthouse- we saw porpoise, minke whale, seals, gannets and gulls and skuas; all in one afternoon! If Meena offers a home-cooked meal, take her up on it! – you’ll be glad you did – a delicious (and cosy) meal.’

‘Dear Meena and Chris

We were very happy to come to Rainbow Cottage and it was nice to meet, talk and have fun with you both. The location of the cottage is quite unique. We relished the peace and tranquility, the beautiful and unspoiled scenery and surroundings, the beautiful views at different light conditions all across the day – and, of course, the amazing sunsets. There must be relatively few places where one can sit in the lounge and have such a view. Everything was just perfect for a great R&R holiday. Thankyou for making that possible.’
