” Perfect Views, warm and relaxing cottage, quiet, peaceful holiday. Our SECOND stay at Rainbow Cottage and again we are leaving happy and refreshed. Thanks! (for sightseeing recommendations see visitor’s book in cottage)”.
Colin and Vanessa, Perthshire (October 2015)
“Our SECOND trip to Rainbow Cottage and it was every bit as good (or better!) than we remember. The cottage is warm and cosy, the view is amazing and everything we could have wished for was supplied by Meena and Chris. Skye has everything – Fairy pools, dinosour footprints, coral beach, the Queraing etc. Boat trips from Portree and Elgol – we saw sea eagles, golden eagles, seals, porpoises and so much more. Sunsets are amazing and barely not a drop of rain. Thanks for everything – we will certainly be back!”
Jonathan, Lorraine & Taylor, Renfrewshire (October 2015)
“It is our SECOND visit to Rainbow Cottage and we were excited to return! This time we had a toddler in tow so there would be a bit less relaxing and no dining at the Three Chimneys but we still had an excellent time. The weather was mostly kind so we managed lots of walks and pottering in the garden. Lunches at the Stein Inn, an excellent dinner at Edinbane Inn and lots of looking out of the cottage windows at the amazing views. Thanks again for a lovely stay……& from our 18 month …. Mirren recommends the Park in Edinbane and the soft play at the Aros Centre”.
The Smiths, Glasgow (October 2015)
” Pure heaven! Rainbow Cottage is wonderful. I could just sit and watch the changing light over the Loch and the fly-by of the birds. Lochbay Seafood and Gordon’s boat trip made for a perfect day. The cottage has everything one would need and you two, Meena and Chris, were perfect hosts! Please come and visit us in the North Carolina mountains! ….Wonderful location. Wonderful hosts. Feel so lucky to have found this place”.
Patty Davies and Jean Richards, USA (September 2015)
” Our SECOND visit to Rainbow Cottage and, although we haven’t left yet, we are already planning our return! Quite simply an amazing location with ever changing colours and spectacular views. Words nor pictures cannot capture the feeling this wonderful place gives you and we feel very lucky to have been able to share it. Eagles and Dolphins in the bay, and the kind attention of the lovely Meena and Chris make this location unrivalled”
Dawn and Bill, Newcastle (September 2015)
” Our FOURTH visit! Another wonderful week at Rainbow Cottage – THE place to relax and unwind. We bought fabulous weather from the South! Looking forward to returning. Thanks Meena and Chris, as ever!”
Graham and Caroline, Bath (September 2015)
” Great stay at Rainbow Cottage, as always – our THIRD visit! Chris and Meena always make it a special experience. Despite mixed weather, the sun managed to come out each time we stopped for a walk: Rubha Hunish and Neist Light House were highlights. The Queraing is fantastic especially in the sunshine. Lots of great little craft shops to visit. Back again next year! Thanks Chris and Meena”
Glen and Mike, Yorkshire ( September 2015)
” Just spent the perfect week in Rainbow Cottage. The view is something that will stay with me forever. We were able to explore the whole Island and a pub (Stein Inn) in walking distance to the cottage is a real bonus. Gordon’s boat trip (Diver’s Eye) is a must for anyone with kids and/or an interest in wildlife. Another highlight was walking along the beach back to the cottage watching the sun set at the end of the loch. Fairy Glen is a must to visit – magical!.…..and from Daniel, 10 years old ‘saw dolphins, whales and eagles. Rainbow Cottage is amazing. Will never forget it’ The cottage has every comfort and Meena and Chris cannot do enough for you. Thanks.
Jay, Jo and Dan, W. Yorks (August 2015)
“Our SECOND time in Rainbow Cottage and every bit as enjoyable as the first visit. We have travelled the whole island and had a great time. The view from the cottage is a constantly changing picture and always amazing. The eagles have been a joy to watch. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and Chris and Meena are the perfect hosts. Thank you both so much”.
Neil and Patrice, Cumbria (August 2015)
“Thank you very much, Meena and Chris, for your very warm welcome and for all your tips on the places to go. Even with mixed weather, the view from the cottage is spectacular and it is always very warm and comfortable. Our highlights were Minke whale spotting with Gordon, Loch Coruisk boat trip from Elgol, Old Man of Storr, our walks in wild places and of course, the Golden eagles over the cottage. We would love to come back.”
Isabelle, Daniel, James and Alice, Mandelieu, France (August 2015)
“Thank you for a wonderful stay at Rainbow Cottage! We will have many happy memories of whales at Water Neish Point, puffins on Gordon’s boat trip, Ian William’s amazing art and big heart, being piped down from our trek up the Old Man of Storr, spectacular views at every point and always a comfy cottage to come home to.”
Margaret and Phil, Claire and Alan, Shropshire (August 2015)
” Had a wonderful holiday at Rainbow Cottage. Everything here we needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay, plus lots of personal touches and a truly breathtaking view of Loch Bay. Meena and Chris are lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. Managed to see quite a bit of Skye. Stunning scenery all around the area. Fresh eggs and fish delivered to the cottage were excellent. Was lovely to spot sea eagles over the cottage and watch the rabbits appear in the evening……and from Joni (10 years old) I think the best thing about Rainbow Cottage is the amazing view and the eagles”.
Gillian, Gary, + 10 year old twins Carly and Joni Barrett. East Kilbride (July/August 2015)
” A wonderful holiday full of adventures! Our second stay and just as good as the last. Some wet days but only two to keep us at home. Getting to know the Island, its mountains, food and wildlife is just glorious and the cottage and our hosts fantastic”.
Jane and Roger Pearce, York (July 2015)
“We have found everything we were looking for : warm and friendly people, a spectacular view from the house, wonderful walks, a relaxing holiday. It was well worth coming all the way from Germany to spend two weeks in this welcoming cottage in the North of the Isle of Skye. Thank you Meena and Chris!”
Mechthild and Juergen, Germany (June/July 2015)

“For Game of Thrones fans not the land of fire and ice, but light and water and ever changing skyscapes, and luminous colours. Every hedgerow contains a treat but highlights include eagles, buzzards, cuckoos, seals and our family of rabbits. Do try the Three Chimneys, otherwise any walk anywhere rewards! Special mention to SkyeSkins. Thank you Meena and Chris”
Neil and Julie, Ipswich. Nigel, Matlock (June 2015)
” Very comfortable, beautifully decorated house with superb views. Meena and Chris excellent hosts. Waternish Point, Trumpan and neist Point highlights and lochside Crafts and Tea Room Dunvegan, for lunch. Despite poor weather no need for the TV with that everchanging view! Thanks for all your help to make it an enjoyable stay.”
David, Elspeth and Bob, Glasgow (May 2015)
” What was memorable about our week here? Watching the sea turn azure blue in the sunshine at Oronsay. Watching the seals watching us at the Coral Beaches. Wonderful, lingering meals at the Three Chimneys and the Edinbane Inn. Amazing sunsets over the Western Isles. And tonight, after a day of rain and wind, the Waternish Peninsula suddenly bathed in sunshine. Sometimes Skye saves the best until last! Thank you Chris and Meena for being such welcoming, gracious hosts of the magical Rainbow Cottage. We will all be back.
Susie, Malcolm, Rosemary and Mark, England (May 2015).
” A very comfortable week in a lovely. cosy cottage., thank you. Stunning views and location- we enjoyed just having a glass of wine and watching the sun go down behind the Outer Hebrides. Waternish Point and Neist Point highly recommended for wildlife spotting.”
Kieran and Gail (May 2015).
“Arrived in the snow, walked with the rain and skipped in the sunshine on the summit above The Quirang (amazing 360 degree view!). Each element added to our stay, Skye is an amazing place and whatever you choose to do you cannot fail to enjoy! We were blown away by the view from Sgurr Na Stri (15 mile walk through the Cuillins Return) and spent ages on Coral Beach watching “the children of the sea” and munching on a big fat cake from Jann’s (Dunvegan)! (with Scottish whipped cream and raspberries!). Thanks very much for making us welcome Meena and Chris, we are already planning our return! (Rainbow Cottage speaks for itself!)”

“A lovely cottage with stunning views and beautiful walks close by.We also enjoyed some challenging cycle routes. Good weather has also helped to make this a very enjoyable, relaxing week on Skye. (I would definitely recommend the pool table at the Stein Inn. Admission £1 – from Andrew age 9!).

“We came here in the autumn to take some time out from our busy London lives and to do some ‘big sky’ thinking about our business. The setting could not be more perfect. Inspiring views, refreshing walks and cosy evenings in the local pub. We have really stepped back and return refreshed , motivated and ready for action. This will now be an annual event. Highly recommended. Thank you.”

“Our first visit and we fell in love with everything. Thanks to Meena and Chris for sharing their Waternish home with us. Rainbow Cottage is, quite simply, wonderful – warm, comfortable and so inviting and the view from the cottage is breathtaking.
Thank you also, Meena and Chris, for all your recommendations for trips out and places to eat – they were all outstanding.
We are already planning our next visit to Rainbow Cottage; to return to this unique and wonderful isle and to the warm and generous care of our hosts Meena and Chris.”

“It was our third time at the Rainbow Cottage and for sure it will not have been the last time. Entering the cosy cottage was a little bit like homecoming. Even with our third time on Skye there was plenty of things left to see. Beside the beautiful weather granted to us throughout the whole of the week, we were able to watch eagles right from our breakfast table. A nice walk out to the lighthouse at Waternish Point (good trip) offered us the opportunity to see a whale (beside the seals enjoying the sun there). As we met Chris and Meena later in the week they were like always: good friends and wonderful hosts. Now we are sorry to leave as the week went by so fast. But, as mentioned above ….we will be back!”

As always very hard to leave such a perfect cottage and location. Chris and Meena made us so welcome. They and the Waternish community made us so welcome and very much part of their community, even if only for a short time. We will see them and Rainbow Cottage again.”

“Our second visit to Rainbow Cottage. We felt straight at home and relaxed in this lovely cosy cottage. This time we walked to Waternish Point and managed half of The Quiraing route. Lovely boat trip from Elgol with ‘Skye Boat Trips’ to Loch Coruisk, a very beautiful and and peaceful place. Neist Point is well worth a visit, stunning views. Nice food on our last night at The Old Schoolhouse restaurant in Dunvegan and the Small and Cosy Tea Room in Digg (Nr Staffin) is a must do. We’ve had more sun than rain and planned our excursions around the weather. Thanks to Chris and Meena for making us feel so welcome, we hope to return soon.”

We had lovely weather and enjoyed several walks recommended by Meena and Chris. Amazing sunshine and rainbows for our walk to Coral Beach and despite the wind and rain, our walk to Waternish Point was stunning and Logan LOVED the ‘mud puddle’ obstacles. “Meena and Chris. Thanks to you both for allowing us to stay at your wonderful, warm, comfortable cottage. We have had a great time even though the weather hasn’t been kind to us. However, the weather did present us with a magical double rainbow at Coral Bay, it was so clear and vivid it seemed almost close enough to reach out and touch. Two visits to Colbost Jetty have been rewarded with our own private performances by the seals.”

“Did you ever wakeup, watching out of the window and seeing a bright rainbow over the sea and the outline of the Outer Hebrides far on the horizon? That’s what can happen at the Rainbow Cottage and that’s one off the things that makes this place so special. We came for the second time to Rainbow Cottage and it felt a little bit like homecoming. Knowing the surroundings really lets you focus of the purpose of the visit: being on holiday, relax and enjoy! On the other hand there are always new things to discover on this beautiful island of Skye and the view from the cottage is so amazing that we will never get tired of it.
Meena and Chris are wonderful hosts who gave us a warm welcome. Thank you for the very nice evening and talk at the Stein Inn. Meena and Chris say that they want the world to come to Rainbow Cottage, and it is the best way to experience this part of the world. Visited lots of places on the island and fabulous fishing at Niest Point and off the rocks past Coral Beach. “Absolutely lovely. It turned out that one of us was recuperating from an operation…and what better place to do it!
Shilasdair is a knitters heaven – I enjoyed all the craft shops and have gone home with lots of bits and pieces. The walk to Oronsay Island is lovely, as are Dunvegan Castle gardens. The drive around Trotternish is fabulous, but takes a long time and we had to cut it short to get back for dinner at the Three Chimneys! (Everything it is cracked up to be, but the wine is seriously overpriced.)
But, as previous guests have said, the best thing is the cottage, the location and THAT VIEW!!
Meena and Chris are kind and helpful, with lots of local knowledge. We hope to be back.”

“This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in, in all the years we have travelled around the Hebrides. From our arrival in thick sea mist and rain – but still having the most memorable sunset four hours later – to the incredible weather events through our two weeks, this part of Skye just has to be one of the best bases for a holiday. Dunvegan (incl. seal boat trip), Coral Beach, Neist Point lighthouse, the walk from Ullinish to Oronsay and Carbost/Glenbrittle – Waternish is perfectly located for all these great days out. Other recommendations: the Red Roof Cafe in Glendale, Marmelade in Portree, the bakers and Jann’s in Dunvegan and, of course, ‘the local ‘ Stein Inn in Waternish.
And, what ‘tops’ all of these attractions, returning to ‘that view’ from the cottage – never the same twice – just fantastic!
We’d also like to say thank you, Meena and Chris for making our holiday so special with excellent recommendations of walks and cafes and not forgetting our cultural outings to see Sharon and the Reckless Angels in Glendale (it may have been a small audience but it was a lively one!) and the Pirates of Penzance!

“This is our second visit to Rainbow Cottage and our sincere thanks to Meena and Chris for providing such a perfect, idyllic holiday destination. They are kind, friendly, warm and welcoming which is reflected in the comfort of their cottage, making it feel like a home.
The warm, comfortable lounge provides unprecedented, perfect views out across the ‘theatre’ that is Loch Bay; where no matter what the weather the anthology of scenes entice you into the action!! Spot the eagles soaring around the bay, watch the boats and ships traverse the horizon on their way to wherever. The distant islands shimmer, appear and disappear at the will of the atmosphere. The changing hues abound across the cliffs and water, the moody wind chops and chafes the surface of the sea. You see there is no real requirement to even leave the cottage to find peace, contentment and fulfilment.
PS – Don’t leave without trying the eggs – they are awesome.”

We did some great walks with fantastic views and saw dolphins in the bay below the cottage . Saw lots of rainbows. Weather was good , rainy at times but no bother. If you live in a light polluted area look out for a clear night – the stars will blow you away, so clear and so many.
Thank you Chris and Meena – you are great hosts.”

“What a wonderful place to celebrate Dad’s 80th Birthday. Watching dolphins in the bay over breakfast and sea eagles flying over the loch. We enjoyed some fabulous walks including Glen Brittle, the Quiraing and Isle of Oronsay. Meena and Chris were perfect hosts with great recommendations of walks and places to eat. We loved the haddock and chips at Stein Inn as well as the tearooms such as Red Roof Cafe, Small and Cosy Tea Room and Ellishadder Art Cafe with beautiful ingredients and, of course, the cakes at Jann’s in Dunvegan. There was plenty to do despite the changeable weather which provided lots of beautiful rainbows and cloud reflections over the sea. Its so easy to just sit and watch that fabulous view changing all the time. The perfect place to relax and unwind – all completed by a gorgeous meal cooked for us by Meena!
Thank you both so much for looking after us so well. We all want to come back again soon.”

“I’ve had a wonderful week at Rainbow Cottage. The cottage itself is outstanding – fantastic views, cosy and comfortable; add to that the great welcome from Meena and Chris, plus all the information you need if you want it, must make this the best place to stay in Skye!
The location also makes it a great base for exploring the island – and if you like some really good food after hiking visit the Ellishadder Art Cafe – scrumptious! Janns Cafe in Dunvegan is great for coffee and cake, and for that really special meal – go for Kinloch Lodge Hotel.
Thank you Meena and Chris for a wonderful place to stay – it is my aim to get back here ASAP!!”

“We have been to a lot of beautiful places before but Skye turned out to be one of the greatest. We experienced this fantastic combination of land, mountains and sea during every thinkable kind of weather – and it had a special atmosphere every time. Coming here at the beginning of September offered us the opportunity to see all the heather in its purple bloom – very beautiful.
Rainbow Cottage is a unique place. We really felt at home during our one week stay. Enjoying the view to Loch Bay while sitting on the dinner table wasa stunning experience. The view was changing from day to day and even from hour to hour.
Thankyou Meena and Chris for this wonderful accommodation and your warm welcome. Its for sure that we will return to Skye one day – and then have the chance to stay at the Rainbow again.”

“Judy Garland sang ‘Somewhere over the rainbow is a place…………………’ She was wrong – it was not ‘over the rainbow’, it was ‘at the rainbow’. The cottage she never found – she got lost during her search but we were fortunate to find that place where our dreams came true. Lots of sun, beautiful walks and an inspiring Meena and Chris. Thanks a lot!”

“Thanks to Chris and Meena for a lovely welcome and great tips about places to go and to eat. We enjoyed the food (and Sunday night music) at the Edinbane Inn; great fish and chips at the Stein Inn and would also recommend the Old School House at Dunvegan and LochBay Seafood at Stein. Memorable pitstops at RedRoof Cafe in Glendale, Small and Cosy Tea Room near Staffin, Elishadder Art Cafe, Arriba in Portree and quirky Windrush Cafe at Balgown. Loved the Oronsay walk, Talisker Bay, Trotternish Ridge and Ardmore peninsula and the fairy pools at Glen Brittle. Each day we said ‘We’ll have to come back to do that’ – and we definitely will.
We’d love to return to Rainbow Cottage. Its got to have the best view on Skye and is comfortable and ideally located for access to the whole island.”

“We have been to many beautiful places but this is one of the greatest! We spent hours looking out of the window watching the different colours of the sky and sea. We enjoyed this place very much and are grateful that we could stay here. Trotternish ridge is marvellous, eating at seafood restaurant “Harbour View” excellent and the great walk to Oronsay Island unforgettable. Chris and Meena are really nice and very helpful. They made us feel like being at home. Enjoy whenever you can Meena’s indian food and head massage- it is just great. We had a wonderful sunny week here and we will definitely be back here one day! Look forward to seeing you again dear Chris and Meena!

“Really enjoyed our stay at Rainbow Cottage. A lovely cottage in a fantastic location with ever changing views – from rainbows to gorgeous sunsets over the Western Isles. Meena and Chris were really friendly and helpful. We look forward to visiting again. Highlights of our visit included Coral Beach, the walk to Neist Point lighthouse, expresso chocolate brownies at the Red Roof Cafe, seals on the rocks between Coral Beach and Dunvegan Castle, sea eagles and the Ellishader Art Cafe. For the children there was a great playground at Sligachan next to a bar with a good children’s menu (between Portree and Broadford). Don’t want to leave as there is so much more to see.”

“What a wonderful week we have had at Rainbow Cottage. This is the best cottage we have stayed in, a home away from home. Beautiful location and wonderful sunsets. We explored a lot of Skye but left some for our next visit. We can recommend the the Small and Cosy Teashop in Digg near Staffin – superb cakes followed by a walk at the Quiraing to burn off the calories. Dunvegan Castle was interesting and we saw the Cuillin’s in all their majesty in the sunshine. Thanks Chris and Meena for your warm welcome, superb meal and letting us share your magical location. We hope to come back very soon”

“A delightful base from which to explore the island by car and by foot. Weather has been mixed but it didn’t stop us, spotted seals, dolphin and whale from Waternish Point and sea eagle and red deer en route. Sampled menus at Three Chimneys, Loch Bay, The Old School House and the Small and Cosy Tea Room plus cooked ourselves with fish delivered by George. Each walk we celebrated by opening a bottle of champagne. A wonderful week!”

“We had such a warm welcome having brought the chill of London with us. Then a glorious week of sunshine and wonderful sunsets. Loved Trotternish and the drive to Elgol, the busking at Edinbane Inn, a wonderful meal at the Three Chimneys and the late drive back with sheep and lambs sleeping at the side of the road. There is still so much to see we shall have to return and will also recommend this very special cottage to all our friends.”

“We have had a brilliant week in Rainbow Cottage – and, yes, we did see a rainbow. Fantastic sunsets and sunshine all week, we feel truly blessed. Great jamming session at the Edinbane Inn and the Vatersay Boys were ‘bouncing’. Rainbow Cottage is the perfect location, we spent many hours admiring the always beautiful views. Meena and Chris have been so welcoming and all the local knowledge and advice is greatly appreciated. Thankyou Meena for the gorgeous Indian meal. “Lovely cottage with spectacular views. Glorious weather for seven days – who could ask for more! Took the ‘Spindrift’ boat tour to Isle of Rona with Pam as tour guide and Kevin at the helm. Well worth the money – saw sea eagles, cormorants, puffins, guillimots and more. Spent several late afternoons at the Stein Inn – lovely pub with great atmosphere.
The cottage itself is well equipped for two couples. We spent many evenings gazing out at the glorious sunsets – trying to capture them on our cameras.Chris and Meena are great landlords – friendly and welcoming, ready to help with any queries whilst not being intrusive. A perfect combination. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and hope to visit again.”

“A beautiful ‘home from home’ cottage with the most stunning location. My sunset photography is really coming along! Thank you soooo much Chris and Meena for being so welcoming and helpful with all our walk info etc. Also wonderful indian meal and head massage. Highlights have been the Quiraing walk, Red Roof Cafe, Small and Cosy Teahouse, Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant, the sunsets etc. etc…………. Of course we can’t comment on the rainbow because we have had no rain. What a week of wonderful weather!
An excellent week rounded off on our last night by good food and music at Raise the Roof at the Red Roof Cafe – a not to be missed place.
We will definitely recommend Rainbow Cottage to anyone visiting Skye and for our first visit to the island it has been a holiday to remember. Stunning!”

“Meena and Chris
Thank you for the experience of such a wonderful location to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. You are a kind and generous couple who’s welcome and consideration is warmly and genuinely given. You have not just provided holiday accomodation but a home which for us is almost impossible to wrench ourselves away from.
This exceptional cottage provided everything required should you not wish to step out across its threshold for the duration of your stay. Each time we went out around this lovely isle we found that we were magically drawn back to the cottage to be consumed by the vista from the lounge; the picture it creates is alive and real, the ever changing hues and shades will forever live in our memories.
We have drunk wine and drank in the views your wonderful home has offered, it has touched our hearts like no other place…….’

‘We’ve had a brilliant week with some of the most entertainingly varied weather ever – I think we have seen phenomena we never knew existed. The rainbow count has been high! As you know the sea eagle count has also been very high, including up and down the bay, and the best place to watch the seals was definitely Loch Dunvegan – magical. The cottage and the view have been fantastic – thanks for laying on that sunset last Saturday night. Much appreciated. We’ve had a series of completely lazy mornings just gazing out of the window, counting the buzzards. Last night’s Indian meal was also amazing – you are Skye’s culinary genius, as is your assistant! We will definitely recommend you to everyone we know . See you soon!

‘Our first visit to Rainbow Cottage but it won’t be our last. Skye has so much to offer, to see and to do, that we will be back – and why stay anywhere else? Rainbow Cottage has the bestsituation, views and comforts; surely.‘
Rainbow Cottage exceeded our expectations, it has been so much more than we could hope for. The kitchen was well stocked with all the tools we needed and the comforts of the rest of the cottage made it a joy to arrive ‘home to’, relaxing in style after long days exploring. Clever planting outside accentuating the dramatic views and allowing a full and glorious aspect from the superb windows. Went for superb drives and walks – recommend Waternish Point lighthouse- we saw porpoise, minke whale, seals, gannets and gulls and skuas; all in one afternoon! If Meena offers a home-cooked meal, take her up on it! – you’ll be glad you did – a delicious (and cosy) meal.’

We were very happy to come to Rainbow Cottage and it was nice to meet, talk and have fun with you both. The location of the cottage is quite unique. We relished the peace and tranquility, the beautiful and unspoiled scenery and surroundings, the beautiful views at different light conditions all across the day – and, of course, the amazing sunsets.
